Newborn Baby Health: Caring for Your Baby After Birth

The first weeks after birth are an important time for both babies and parents. Proper newborn care supports healthy growth, strengthens immunity, and helps babies adjust to life outside the womb.

🔹 Feeding comes first
Breast milk provides ideal nutrition plus antibodies that protect against infections; exclusive breastfeeding is recommended for the first six months whenever possible. If formula is your path, prepare it exactly as instructed — fed with love is what matters.

🔹 Safe sleep, every sleep
To reduce the risk of SIDS: always place the baby on the back, use a firm mattress, keep pillows, blankets and toys out of the crib, and avoid overheating the room or the baby.

🔹 Regular pediatric visits
Routine checkups track growth, vaccinations, hearing, vision and developmental milestones. Bring your questions written down — 3 a.m. worries deserve daytime answers.

🔹 Everyday hygiene
Wash hands before handling the baby. Keep the umbilical stump clean and dry until it falls off naturally. Sponge baths are enough until then.

🔹 Recognize signs of illness
Call your doctor promptly for: fever (38°C+ under 3 months is always urgent), refusal to feed, unusual sleepiness or weak cry, breathing difficulty, fewer wet diapers, or yellowing skin and eyes that spreads. You know your baby best — trust that knowledge.
