Pack the bag around week 36 and leave it by the door. Think of three small kits: labor, after-birth, and baby.
🔹 For labor
ID and hospital papers, phone charger with a LONG cable, lip balm, hair ties, snacks for the partner, and a robe you do not mind ruining. Music or downloads if waiting calms you.
🔹 For after the birth
Two comfortable nursing-friendly pajamas, disposable or cheap underwear, maternity pads, your own toiletries (hospital soap is sad), slippers, and one loose going-home outfit — your body will still look about six months pregnant, and that is completely normal.
🔹 For the baby
4–5 bodysuits and sleepers in newborn AND 0–3 month sizes (babies surprise everyone), a hat, socks, one warm layer, a small pack of newborn diapers, and the installed car seat waiting in the car — many hospitals will not release you without it.
🔹 The forgotten heroes
A folder for paperwork, small cash for vending machines, and a written list of people to message so the exhausted partner does not improvise.
Do not aim for a perfect bag. Aim for a done bag — anything missing, someone can bring tomorrow.
