Choosing a name feels enormous because it is: it is the first gift that lasts a lifetime. A simple method turns the chaos into a joyful process.
🔹 Step 1 — Collect without judging
For two weeks, both parents save every name they like (our Favorites feature exists exactly for this). No vetoes yet — judging too early kills good candidates.
🔹 Step 2 — Apply the filters
• Say it out loud with your surname, ten times.
• Shout it across an imaginary playground.
• Check the initials do not spell something unfortunate.
• Check the meaning — every name on our site shows it (you might be surprised).
🔹 Step 3 — The veto round
Each parent may kill any name, no explanations required. What survives belongs to you both.
🔹 Step 4 — Live with the finalists
Take the top 3 for a one-week test drive. Imagine the CV, the wedding invitation, the toddler in trouble. One name usually starts feeling like home.
🔹 Step 5 — Keep it sealed
Announcing early invites opinions you did not order. "We have chosen, it is a surprise" is a complete sentence.
And if the baby arrives and the chosen name suddenly does not fit the face — changing your mind in the delivery room is a parenting tradition older than paper.
